The latest changes at Vermont Natural Ag Products, Inc...

Spring 2000:
We constructed a new 2- acre compost pad to help us increase our production.
The pad is constructed out of "shot rock" from the quarry next
door.

Summer 2000, 2001:
We laid soils on the compost pad in the Summer of 2000.
In addition, to keep up with demand, we built three additional pads through the
2001 fiscal year and are currently using them all.

2002:
We constructed a collection pond next to our new compost pads to catch rain/snow
runoff from the compost pads. This helps to prevent compost and compost
leachate from reaching nearby streams. It also allows the nutrients to be added
back to the composting piles when additional moisture is need to make premium
compost.

2002:
We purchased a used turner to help the process of aerating (adding oxygen) to
the piles. Previously, we turned the composting piles by using a front end
loader. This was very time consuming and didn't fluff the pile very well. The
turner fluffs the pile, takes the outside material and puts it into the center
of the pile, and does the process much more rapidly. All making for a
better, more uniform compost.
